Anti Aging Skin Products - What About Body Treatments?

Imagine for a moment your dry, scaly looking feet . . . Now, imagine your arms with dark spots (age spots), wrinkles and not pretty anymore. Or maybe your chest doesn't appear to be as firm? What is on the market to help with these problems?

Ok, so we talk a lot about anti aging skin care products for the face, but why is it we forget about the rest of the body? Have you seen age spots on your arms? What about freckles or even dry patches? My goal is to share some practical advice on treating the body's need for anti aging.

The layers of skin on your body is much thicker than what is on your face. Therefore, using anti aging skin products designed for the face, which is much thinner, will not be very effective on the rest of the body. You will need to find products designed to penetrate the thicker layers of the body in order to effect change and de-age the skin.

Your body does need anti aging, especially your feet, but it requires a stronger more powerful product that can benefit deep into the thicker layers of the skin. Some of the key ingredients to look for in these types of product are aloe, almond and avacado oils, vitamins A, C & E, that they are mineral based, contain copper and Kojic acid (a natural skin lightener for age spots) and many others. Using more natural botanical ingredients will be more gentle to the skin since they are plant derived.

The Dead Sea Laboratories, creators of Ahava, state that "vital to skin's healthy function are magnesium, calcium, potassium and sodium which attract and retain water. Minerals are crucial in facilitating cell-to-cell signals which stimulate cells to regenerate and nourish the top layers of skin." So finding products that contain these essential minerals and ingredients will ultimately help your skin retain it's moisture rather losing moisture to evaporation and aging over time. The goal is to have smoother, wrinkle and age spot free skin that looks younger and healthier.

Keeping your skin covered while you are in the sun is also HUGE in fighting aging of the skin. UVA & UVB rays are so damaging to the skin that cancers of the skin are the leading cancers in the US today. Find sunscreens that have both UVA & UVB protection in them, but also cover your head with a hat, use an umbrella, wear sun glasses and always wear sunscreen on the exposed parts of your skin.

Another factor to look for when shopping for products to help you with your body, is to be sure to find products that don't contain mineral oil. What's the big deal, you say? Well, mineral oil is actually a known carcinogen, and when it is applied to your skin it actually creates a barrier and doesn't allow the skin to "breathe". When you apply a product containing mineral oil, you will notice that your hands, or wherever you apply it, will feel "greasy" and you will be wiping your hands off from the oil left on them because it never absorbs into the skin. It is a very cheap filler that many companies use in their lotions, creams, baby oils, chapsticks and etc.

If you suffer from skin diseases like eczema, psoriasis, rashes or other problematic skin diseases, a product with mineral oil in it can only cause those problems to be worse because it simply coats the skin and doesn't allow the skin to function properly and therefore, it will take longer for the skin to heal. Imagine a baby who gets a rash on its bottom. Its mother applies baby oil or baby lotions to its bottom, but because they contain mineral oil, that baby's bottom isn't going to heal because it can't breath. I've seen this happen time and time again both as a nurse in labor & delivery and also in my business.

I've also seen people use products without mineral oil in them and have huge success. The key is NO mineral oil! Don't buy products that have it!

If you are still skeptical about this information, here is a quick test you can do at home. Get two bowls and put baby oil (baby oil is made of mineral oil and a small amount of fragrance) in one, and water in the next. Place a saltine cracker or Ritz cracker, it doesn't matter, into each bowl. Wait approximately 15 minutes and then check the results of the two. You will find that the cracker in the water has become mushy because it totally absorbed into it. Keep in mind, the cracker represents our skin, so what happens to the cracker can be compared to what will happen on our skin. The cracker that was in the mineral oil, when it is removed is as crispy as when you put it into the bowl. The mineral oil doesn't absorb into the cracker, just like it doesn't absorb into your skin. Believe me, I've shown this test to multiple crowds of people with the same exact results each time. Mineral oil is bad stuff, for lack of a better word!

You want skin care products that absorb into your skin. If they aren't absorbing, your skin becomes dehydrated and dry because it isn't getting any moisture to it!

Ok, moving on . . .

Anti aging for the body is a HUGE need for many in the marketplace. I know Arbonne and many other companies have awesome products to help correct the problems we face. In addition, be sure to maintain a healthy diet, drink lots of water, take vitamins and minerals on a daily basis and stay out of the sun.

Keep yourself hydrated with at least 6-8 glasses of water per day. Your cells require it to stay "plump". When they become dehydrated, you begin to see more wrinkles, so be sure to drink lots of water every day and take your vitamins. There are tons of awesome vitamin companies that make very high quality products. Shoot for the ones that are "natural" verses "synthetic" made. Make sure they will dissolve within 30 minutes from taking them for the best results. You want them to dissolve from the stomach rather than waiting for them to dissolve in the bowels where much less nutrient is used by the body.
